From an early age, Nelson Zimmerman’s drive and ambition was to know how things are made and how they work. He had a reputation of taking things apart to study and better understand their inner workings.
As part of a manufacturing team in the 1980’s, Nelson looked into the then fairly-new technology of powder coating as an environmentally safer, better-quality finish for some of PBZ Manufacturing’s products. Nelson pushed forward in his understanding of powder coating, and in the process founded Keystone Koating in 1986.
Running and growing a business gave Nelson the opportunity to develop powder coating solutions for customer’s various needs, and to experience the types of challenges all business face, including adapting marketing and promotion to the ebbs and flows of the economy.

Nelson has been married to Judy for 41 years. They have four children and two grandchildren. Nelson serves a variety of nonprofit boards and is an amateur pilot.
